Hamish Blakely - Secado

Secado

This is a Spanish term for drying off. This is one of a series of paintings I have done exploring the renowned bathing pastels of Edgar Degas. Much like the 'Muse' pieces I wanted to have a contemporary twist on this much recorded activity. As always, I am really interested in the play of light on the anatomy and other textures. The impasto background offsets the undulating form of the woman tilted in a lovely rhythmic form as she finishes her preparations for the evening ahead. The mottled towel, the soft fabric of
the robe and her skin are ample components to make me want to paint.
